FAQ

Why Grain-free pet food?

The digestive tract of the dog is ideal for digesting protein, unlike humans, a dog’s gut has a very acidic pH, making it equipped to resist pathogenic bacteria but not to digest grains.

By feeding your dog processed food, you may be increasing their risk of bloat. Most commercial foods are highly processed and when your dog eats kibble with grain, it turns into porridge. The stomach doesn’t need to work very hard to digest it, and over time the stomach wall muscles become weak.

A weak stomach is much more prone to dilation and gas build-up which happens especially with carbohydrate rich foods. Therefore grain-based foods are one of the main sources of stomach bloat in dogs.

Wet food or dry food – which is better for my dog?

Both food types have their benefits, that is why we offer different meal options of both dry and wet food. Dry food is high in calories and nutrient rich, however lacks the nutrient quality and moisture of fresh home cooked dinners.

Our wet food is balanced and combined with added minerals and vitamins to meet required nutritional levels for dogs. With the added benefits of being freshly cooked without preservatives or grains.

Why two meals per day?

Most experts recommend feeding your dog twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Having regularly scheduled feeding times not only establishes a routine, it also allows you to monitor your dog’s health, which can reduce the risk of obesity and other related diseases.

More frequent meals are recommended for certain disease conditions and digestive upset, as they are easier to digest. They are also of benefit to dogs with liver disease and are more likely to be tolerated by dogs which are poorly and feeling nauseous.

However, this feeding schedule requires more work for the pooches owner and that’s where Doggy Dinners helps by preparing all your pooches meals in correct portion sizes.

Why use Chickpeas?

Also known as Garbanzo Beans, Chickpeas are low glycemic legumes that are a great source of protein, folic acid, fiber, and the essential amino acid lysine. Folic acid is very important for cardiovascular health and is needed for energy production. Fibre is important in aiding proper digestion. Lysine is vital for many body functions including growth and maintenance of tissues and muscle mass.
